Spotlight Feature: Foxy Chic Jewelry

Hey Dolls!
Today's feature is another Las Vegas boutique! Foxy Chic Jewelry pride's itself on being unique and standing out in a crowd! Check out my interview with the founder and owner, J.C. Nix!

What inspired you to open a jewelry boutique?
Making jewelry was my creative escape from conformity and it became my own little addiction. Each piece was my "baby" and like parents know, you don't give or sell your babies away, my inspiration room became a jewelry orphanage…I had to break the cycle LOL, so I I opened up Foxy Chic Jewelry Designs

Where did the name Foxy Chic come from?
My best friend and I were laying in the grass outside of her house in Hawaii. We were playing with our daughters talking about how cute the girls were in their little sexy outfits, Kim corrected me and said, "No, not sexy..Foxy!"  I liked it so it stuck with me. My nick name since then is Foxy Chica so Foxy Chic just seemed like the natural go-to.

Where do you pull inspiration from for your aesthetics?
As an Air Traffic Controller for 15 years in the Navy, there was no room for self expression or individualism.  I joined when I was 19 so all of my growing happened in an environment that only allowed civilian clothes at work on Friday's every once in a while and that was if you donated money for the privilege.  Now that I'm retired and have a ton of time on my hands to figure out what exactly I like, I use my creations as a way to express myself.  I enjoy putting things together that I've only ever seen in my mind's eye. My favorite is a copper spiked choker with a diamond chandelier charm and a matching mono earring. I'm inspired by my curiosity to see if I can create something out of completely unrelated components.

What set backs have you faced being a jewelry designer here in Las Vegas?
I think the biggest set back that I've faced is that people out here don't seem to value custom pieces. Most of my clients are back East.

What is one fashion trend you would like to see come back?
I love dresses, the more feminine the better. To me there is power in that, people treat you according to how you dress.

What is one fashion trend that you would like to see leave and never return?
I know this post is for the ladies but i deplore sagging pants!  As far as female fashion I'd gladly see the shorts that show all the booty cheeks, or even just a little, disappear for ever. It sickens and embarrasses me.  Especially when I'm with my mom or kids.  It's like,"Eeewwww you should've bought some self-love instead."

What can we expect to see from your Summer 2014 line?
Crazy body chains. Its pool and beach season, a bikini isn't the only way to show off on the shore, or in the water! I also love my shoulder dusters so you'll see those forever. Armlets are hot because some of us are a little more reserved than others but still have some flair to show off.

What jewelry trends do you hope to see in the next 5 years?
I hope to see functional jewelry, something that has a purpose other than just being pretty. I'm actually working on something like that but the details are TS (top secret).

What do you like to do in your downtime?
I have very little downtime because I'm in the "designing my destiny" mode.  I have a lot of various projects that I'm working on like writing my first book and helping people increase their finances.  My guy and I own a mini mart so there's time spent there not to mention our 4 kids that we invest in. When I sit outside alone at night my mind is on the next goal I need to accomplish. I guess posting something inspirational on FB could be considered a downtime activity, even though it's part of branding :o)

What are some of your favorite designers?
I actually don't have any favorite designers. I don't pay attention to what people are wearing and such so much because I want to keep my designs as purely unique as possible.  Once something is seen it can't be unseen therefore there's a risk of whatever it is being a factor in design.

Where do you like to shop
There's a little place downtown owned by a sister and brother, I think her name is Sarah and his Hannibal.  Anyhow, the boutique is call Coterie and it's my favorite place to indulge. The atmosphere is funky, eclectic and inspiring which is a total reflection of the couture they carry. Everything is only in three's which means there are only two people in all of Las Vegas that have what I have is. I have an issue with cookie cutter anything so, that makes me happy and fuels my desire to create.

If you were a super hero, what would be your main super power?
Mind reading. If you know what someone is thinking you know their strategy, their weaknesses, their desires and motivation. Everything you need to know in order to win.

What impression do you hope to leave on the fashion industry?
Unique is chic.

  1. Premium Quality, custom designed to match my personality and a great value. Foxy Chic can customize jewelry for any occasion and style. When I wear her jewelry I get so many complaints so rather you are looking for something for day to day wear or a special occasion I highly recommend Foxy Chic Jewelry.
