Hey dolls! Today I thought I would switch things up a bit. With Spring right around the corner, I wanted to give you some tips for you next shopping trip. Here are 6 things you can do to be a Fashionista on a budget!
1. Stick to the Basics
Most Fashionistas have similar closets, regardless of size. They keep things simple: jeans, black heels, blazer, tanks (you get the idea). These basics set the foundation for every outfit. They never go out of style, meaning they can be worn with virtually anything. These are pieces you simply can't go wrong with. When worn together, you don't even have to worry about the other tips! I shop everywhere, so a lot of basics can be found for cheap; however, I will say some basics are worth investing in. Jeans, blazers, and shoes are things that I would suggests investing a little more money in, if you can. Maybe not for all of them, but having that one nice pair of jeans or shoes is nice to have for those times you wanna be a little snazzy!
2. Stick to One Trend Per Season
Each season, the fashion industry will give you a list of all the hottest trends. While I think variety is the spice of life, my bank account will usually bring me back down to earth. (the way my bank account is set up.....) Anywho, sticking to one trend will cost you the least, but will still make you feel like you are in the know! My advice is to try the trend that flatters your body the best instead of the one that's the flashiest.
3. Choose Your Trend Wisely
This past fall/winter season gave us tons of trends like Luxe Sport, Camo (again), Minimalist clothings, and so on and so forth. The one that stands out for this particular tip is the pink coat. Seems harmless, right? I admit, for 30 seconds, I wanted one. Here's what brought me back to reality: Am I going to want to look like Jigglypuff or a bottle of Pepto (I saw two I liked in different shades, don't judge me) next winter when this is no longer trendy? Yeah, no. Make sure your "trend" item is something that you may be able to get away with the following year. Those wine colored skinny jeans from 2012 worked in 2013, no harm no foul....
4. Accessorize to Glamorize
Follwing the same rules as 1-3 apply just as much to your jewelry and hair accessories. Only difference is, if you wanted to make your outfits focus on your accessories, there is literally no thought needed. Wearing all black with an awesome statement necklace or pearls is a very polished and classic look (you know, as long as you aren't wearing an all black patent pleather catsuit...).
5. Work on Comfort and Style
Being a Fashionista doesn't mean you have to be uncomfortable in stilettos and tight clothes unless your OK with that. I like to think I'm pretty versatile. Being a Fashionista means making your style look effortless and trendy! Throwing on a nice leather flat, skinny jeans, tank and a blazer is a quick and easy style that can be achieved by anyone.
6. Know Your Proportions
Got more junk in the trunk than melons on the shelf? Then know what type of jeans/pants flatter you most. Make sure your shirts don't swallow your torso and make your waist disappear. None of these tips will matter if you aren't wearing the right fit for your body type. You can always use this past post to see what to buy for your body shape.
So here are just a few tricks to the trade when trying to be fly on a dime. If you have a closet full of clothes that you don't know how to wear, see how they measure up to these tips and see if they are worth keeping. Not saying get rid of your "nomnomasaurus" t-shirt, but find a way to incorporate it into the tips. I love a cool printed shirt under a casual blazer. Just sayin....
